Metaphysics 101: Understanding Energy – The Foundation of Metaphysical Practices

Author: KP. Hari Andri Winarso Wartonagoro (Founder ICEMS)

Indometaphysics.com: Energy is the cornerstone of metaphysical work, shaping everything we experience in the physical and non-physical realms. From the subtle currents that flow through our bodies to the vibrant auras that surround us, energy permeates every aspect of our being. Learning to understand, sense, and manipulate this energy is fundamental to mastering metaphysical practices.

This article explores the different forms of energy and provides practical exercises for beginners to begin working with these forces.

The Different Forms of Energy in Metaphysical Practices

  1. Auras
An aura is an electromagnetic field that surrounds all living beings. It reflects our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual states. A healthy aura appears bright, clear, and strong, while disruptions in the aura can indicate stress, illness, or energetic blockages.Auras are often described in layers, with each layer representing different aspects of the self:
    • Physical Layer: Closest to the body, representing the physical health and vitality.
    • Emotional Layer: Reflects emotions and moods.
    • Mental Layer: Relates to thoughts, beliefs, and mental patterns.
    • Spiritual Layer: Connects to higher consciousness and one’s spiritual path.
  2. Chakras
Chakras are spinning wheels of energy located along the spine, from the base to the crown of the head. Each chakra governs different aspects of our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. There are seven main chakras:
    • Root Chakra (Muladhara): Grounding, survival, security.
    • Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana): Creativity, sexuality, emotions.
    • Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura): Personal power, confidence, willpower.
    • Heart Chakra (Anahata): Love, compassion, connection.
    • Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): Communication, truth, expression.
    • Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): Intuition, perception, imagination.
    • Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): Spiritual connection, enlightenment.
When the chakras are balanced, energy flows smoothly throughout the body, promoting physical and emotional health. Blockages or overactivity in a chakra can lead to discomfort, emotional turbulence, or illness.
  3. Subtle Energy Fields
In addition to auras and chakras, subtle energy fields, often called the “etheric body” or “energy body,” extend beyond the physical form. These fields are where we experience higher vibrational energies, including psychic and spiritual experiences. Working with these fields allows for deeper spiritual exploration, healing, and transformation.

Practical Exercises to Feel and Work with Energy

For beginners, learning to sense and work with energy may take time, but with practice, you’ll begin to notice the subtle shifts and sensations that come with energetic awareness.

1. Aura Sensing Exercise

This simple exercise helps you become aware of the energy field surrounding your body.

  • Find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed. Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
  • Rub your hands together briskly for 10–15 seconds to activate your palm chakras.
  • Slowly pull your hands apart, keeping them about six inches apart.
  • Gently move your hands closer together, then farther apart, without touching. Pay attention to any sensations you feel—this could be warmth, tingling, or a slight resistance.
  • Continue experimenting with this movement, gradually increasing the distance between your hands. You are feeling your energy field.

Over time, you’ll notice that your awareness of your aura and other people’s energy fields will grow stronger.

2. Chakra Balancing Meditation

This meditation will help you tune into and balance your chakras, promoting a healthy flow of energy throughout your body.

  • Sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
  • Focus on the base of your spine, visualizing a red ball of light spinning at your Root Chakra. Imagine it growing brighter with each breath.
  • Move up to your Sacral Chakra, just below your navel, and visualize a bright orange light spinning here. Breathe into it, allowing it to expand.
  • Continue moving up through each chakra—yellow for your Solar Plexus, green for your Heart, blue for your Throat, indigo for your Third Eye, and violet for your Crown.
  • As you move through each chakra, visualize the energy spinning freely and evenly. When you reach the Crown, imagine a beam of white light connecting you to the universe.

This practice can help you restore balance to your chakras, leaving you feeling centered and energized.

3. Energy Cleansing with Visualization

Regularly cleansing your energy is essential for maintaining a healthy, vibrant energy body. This simple visualization technique is a powerful way to release negative energy and restore balance.

  • Stand or sit in a quiet place. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
  • Visualize a bright, golden light above your head. Imagine it slowly descending over your body, like a warm waterfall of light.
  • As the light moves down, see it washing away any negativity, stress, or energetic debris. Feel yourself becoming lighter and more peaceful.
  • Once the golden light reaches your feet, imagine it flowing into the earth, grounding you and connecting you with the planet’s energy.

This visualization can be done daily to keep your energy field clear and vibrant.

Final Thoughts

Understanding and working with energy is a vital step in exploring metaphysical practices. Whether you’re just beginning to sense your aura or diving into the deeper realms of chakra healing, cultivating your relationship with energy will open doors to new spiritual insights and personal transformation. Regular practice will not only strengthen your energetic awareness but also enhance your ability to navigate the metaphysical world with confidence.

By incorporating these exercises into your daily routine, you’ll build a solid foundation in energy work, setting the stage for deeper metaphysical exploration. @indometaphysics
